Privacy policy
Last updated September 8, 2026
Licensed ("we") is a study app for California contractor license exams, operated from the
United States. This policy says what we collect, why, and what we don't do. It's written to be
read, not skimmed past.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and a hashed password, if you create an account with email.
If you use an available sign-in provider, we receive its account identifier and the name and email you choose to share.
For native Sign in with Apple, we also store encrypted provider credentials on our server to
support account security and revoke access when you delete your account. These credentials
are not available to other users. You can use the free diagnostic and study features without an account.
- Study activity: your answers, scores, sessions, and progress. Most of this lives on
your device; if you're signed in, practice results also sync to your account so your history
isn't lost with your phone.
- Reports and requests: issue reports you submit, including optional notes; license and certification votes linked to your account; and your email and selected license if you join a course waitlist.
- Service security: our hosting and authentication providers retain technical request and
authentication logs, including IP addresses, timestamps and account identifiers where applicable,
to secure and troubleshoot the service. These are not advertising profiles.
- Purchase records: if you buy course access, we store what you bought, when, and the
Stripe transaction reference. We never see or store your card number — payment happens
entirely on Stripe's systems (see Stripe's privacy policy).
We use saved study activity and exam plans to suggest lessons and reviews for you. If you choose
a course waitlist, we use that email to send the requested course-opening notice. Optional recall
notes you type within a lesson stay on your device and are not uploaded. We use course votes to prioritize
development. You can remove a vote in the catalog, and account deletion removes your votes. Voting does not subscribe you to emails.
What we don't do
- No advertising trackers, no ad networks, no selling or sharing your data for marketing.
- No social logins scraping your contacts, no location tracking, no analytics profiles
beyond the study stats the app shows you.
Who we share with
Only the services that make the app work: Supabase (database and authentication, hosted
in the United States), Vercel (website hosting), Cloudflare (domain and network services),
and Stripe (payments, when configured). Each receives only what it needs to do its
job. An optional sign-in provider, such as Apple, also processes your sign-in when you choose it.
Your choices
- Delete your account and study data: choose Settings → Delete account in Licensed,
or start account deletion on the web.
Sign in, review the consequences, and confirm. This removes your account, study history,
uploaded files, account-linked issue reports, and waitlist entries matching your confirmed account email
from our active systems. Remaining course access ends. Deletion does not itself refund completed purchases.
- Records retained after deletion: transaction references, amounts, currency, and payment status
remain for payment reconciliation and accounting, with the Licensed account link removed.
Stripe retains payment records under its privacy policy.
A deletion confirmation without your name or email is scheduled for cleanup after seven days so
an interrupted request can be retried. Provider security logs and backups are separate from the active
app database and follow the provider's retention settings.
- Device copies: deletion clears this account’s saved study progress and practice review on the
device completing the request. Minimal deletion markers prevent old app writes from restoring that
progress. On other devices, sign out and clear Licensed’s saved app or site data to remove offline copies.
- Use it without an account: free study data stays on that device or browser.
Clear the app’s saved data or this site’s browser data to remove guest progress.
- Sign in with Apple: we revoke stored Apple credentials when deleting your account.
If an older account has no stored revocable credentials, we delete the Licensed account and
show instructions for removing Licensed from your Apple Account’s Sign in with Apple settings.
For help with deletion, a waitlist entry under a different email, or a data request, contact
support@licensed.app. See the
account deletion guide for the steps.
Children
Licensed is for adults preparing for a professional contractor license and is not directed at
